What does all-time high mean?

The highest price an asset has ever traded at, on the venues being tracked.

The all-time high, or ATH, is a reference point rather than a prediction. Its main use is as a denominator: the distance below the ATH tells you how much of a previous peak has been given back, which is a cleaner way to compare two assets than their absolute prices.

Two caveats apply. The figure depends on which venue and which trading pair it was recorded on, so different sites quote slightly different highs for the same asset, and a brief wick during a liquidation cascade can set a high that almost nobody actually traded at. An all-time high set years ago against a very different circulating supply is not directly comparable to today's price either.

Why do different sites show different all-time highs?

Each site aggregates a different set of exchanges and pairs. A momentary spike on one venue may be included by one provider and filtered out as an outlier by another.
