Bear markets in crypto are characterised by deep drawdowns from the peak, falling volume as attention drains away, and long stretches of sideways movement that outlast most people's patience. Rallies within them can be violent without changing the trend, which is what makes calling the bottom so unreliable.
The period tends to be where structural change concentrates. Speculative projects run out of funding and disappear, leverage is cleared out of the system, and development continues on whatever has revenue or conviction behind it. The falling prices are the visible part; the reduction in the number of things being priced is the more durable one.
How long do crypto bear markets last?
Historically a year or more from peak to trough, though the sample is small and each cycle has differed. Treat past durations as context rather than as a schedule.
